The Most Versatile First Birthday Party Ideas

You’re here, you’ve made it. The sleepless nights that seemed like they wouldn’t end, the crying for no reason at all, the being pooped, peed and thrown up on has led to this milestone; the newborn you brought home (which still feels like it was just yesterday) has turned one. This might seem like a small step in the grand scheme of things to many, but you probably want to shout from the rooftops; but you settle for a celebration instead and throw a birthday party (which your child will not remember), and that is no easy task itself. Take a look at our favourite and the most versatile first birthday party ideas and themes, as we try to make your life a little bit easier.

Honestly no one gets over their love for Disney and now it’s time to pass this love on to your baby with a Mickey/ Minnie Mouse themed birthday party. You don’t have to stick with one or the other, make your place a mini- Disneyland with Minnies and Mickeys all over. Start with the easiest, a Minnie/Mickey Mouse cake. You’ll find plenty of bakeries who can do this; you can even add similar looking cupcakes to the mix.

Decorate your house with the classic and easily recognizable Mickey silhouette banners, Mickey/Minnie balloon bouquets, streamers and balloons to go with your colour theme. You can even match your cutlery and table cloth to your chosen colour scheme.

For party favours, firstly you can have Mickey/Minnie themed favour bags; for the favour itself you can throw in candy, trail mix, crayons and other stationery.

This first birthday party theme has a lot of possibilities, so you can go ham on this one. From a pure jungle themed party to a safari themed one or even a zoo themed party, the options are endless. Have safari/zoo themed invites with your kid’s favourite animal, or just the stuffed animal they really like. The cake can be based on the same animal, with cupcakes based on other animals of the jungle.

Greens and browns dominate this theme and you can find decorative things lying around your house. Leaf cut out garlands, animal banners, and balloon animals. You can increase the green cover of your home and put actual plants around the house. You can even put stuffed animal toys around the house and put ‘do not feed the animals’ signs around them.

Be creative with favours; put stuffed animals in a box labeled ‘adopt a pet’ and let every kid choose a pet. You can even add sunnies for kids with animal print frames or fruit/animal shaped jars filled with candy.

Cars, Trains, Boats, Airplane, even fire trucks, there is no dearth of modes of transport and so there no dearth of birthday party ideas. Whether your kid likes Thomas the tank or lightning Mcqueen, there is something for everyone. Cakes shaped like ships, trains and cars are easily available. Instead of cupcakes you can have sugar frosted cookies with the mode of the hour in variation on them.

Since you have settled the mode of transportation, decorations will come by easy. Naval/Sea based decorations like ropes and life rings, mini sails or for a car themed party a wall that looks like a road or race tracks. For a train theme rail road track décor and you can even dress as a train conductor! The possibilities are limitless.

For favours you can give away crayons shaped like cars, or little toys that are cars, trains, ships etc. You can even gift a book naming different modes of transport (fun and education!) or just a car shaped lunch box/pencil case filled with goodies.

Given how tired you already are, first birthday parties don’t have to be complicated; just don’t forget to take lots of pictures!
